What Is Ivy Tree...?

Ivy tree is a special species that can be found in South China regions, which is also a local species of Hong Kong. Their flowers only blossom during Winter, only the Asian bees (apis cerana) would still been picking honey at that time. Therefore the honey from Ivy Tree is rare, and it is consider a specialty product from South China.

Flowers and leaves from Ivy Tree has a long history in Chinese medicine, it is great for moisturizing and reliefing inflammation symnptoms. It is effective against fever, sore throat or rheumatic joint pain etc. Flowers of Ivy Tree carries a lot of honey and pollen, the smell is very distinctive. However, because they only grow in remote areas where the temperature is very low during Winter blossom, only Asian bees who work throughout the year would pick their honey under cold weather. Thanks to that feature, Ivy Tree honey always come from places where air and water are clean.

Part of the proceeds of the sales will be donated to support Save Local Bees conservation program.

More information

Save Local Bee™ was created on April 2018 by Johnson Group. The program not only aims at saving the bees and their population, but also revitalizing the fast-shrinking beekeeping industry in Hong Kong. Bee Collecting Stories!

Without bees, our world would be a very different place because…

  • Bees play a vital role in balancing our ecosystem
  • Bees and other insects (pollinators) are responsible for pollinating almost three-quarters of all crops
  • Bees also have played their part pollinating the food for the animals that we then consume

To achieve the goals that both bees and beekeeping can be sustainable, we…

  • Educate public especially kids about the importance of bees in the ecosystem
  • Ban the use of outdoor neuro-active pesticides (neonicotinoids) that harm bees
  • Relocate beehives to bee farms instead of killing them
  • Promote local honey to reduce carbon emissions (reduce carbon footprint)
